WHY FIT AN INTERCOOLER & HOW MUCH HORSEPOWER WILL IT GIVE ME?
These are commonly asked questions, the short answer about Horsepower is that adding an intercooler won't necessarily add any power, although there's more to it, let us explain. When air is compressed by a supercharger it is also heated, hot air isn't good for making power as it is less dense than cold air.
Why doesn't Kawasaki fit an intercooler as standard to their supercharged bikes? the answer is cost, complexity & additional weight. Rather than fit additional parts to the bike they add limitations within the ECU which is much cheaper & simpler to do, when activated they reduce engine performance to minimise the chance of damage. While this works as a fix it doesn't do anything for performance & can actually reduce power by up to 30%.
What an intercooler does is reduce the intake charge temperature to a level below the where the ECU limitations are active so the engine power it kept at the maximum at all times. This is especially important when increasing boost *adding supercharger gears* because the charge temperature increases even more when the boost pressure increases.
Adding supercharger gears without adding an intercooler is counter productive & can actually make the bike run worse because with more boost you will get a higher charge temperature & the engine protection will become active sooner due to higher temperature.
DESIGN
Since our popular NINJA H2 intercooler kit hit the market in 2017 we have been continually deveoping & upgrading the design for maximum performance, we have also been listening to our customers, while the Ninja H2 intercooler represents the ultimate in charge cooling performance for the H2 platform we knew the ZH2 would require a kit that represented better value for money but still with excellent cooling ability. With that in mind we designed the ZH2 intercooler kit to work with the OEM plenum so we could keep the production costs in check.
Our ZH2 intercooler still uses all the same quality components of the Ninja H2 kit so you can be assured of a reliable quality design.
During testing we consistently achieved 25-30 DegC (50-80DegF) decrease in Charge temp with as much as 40degC (90DegF) decrease when ambient conditions are cooler & higher speeds are maintained.
FITTING
All parts required to fit the system are included in the kit, although you will require some basic hand tools to install the system plus a good understanding of your motorcycle & mechanical knowledge.
Full fitting instructions with plenty of photos are included.
TUNING
While not essential on a stock engine, ECU Re tuning is recommended to take advantage of the cooler charge temperature. This can also be combined with our Black Art racing supercharger gears for increased boost pressure for additional horsepower gains.
NOTE: Tuning changes may affect compliance with EPA regulations, please check with your local authorities before performing any tuning modifications.
