WHY FIT AN INTERCOOLER & HOW MUCH HORSEPOWER WILL IT GIVE ME?

These are commonly asked questions, the short answer about Horsepower is that adding an intercooler won't necessarily add any power, although there's more to it, let us explain.  When air is compressed by a supercharger it is also heated, hot air isn't good for making power as it is less dense than cold air.

Why doesn't Kawasaki fit an intercooler as standard to their supercharged bikes? the answer is cost, complexity & additional weight. Rather than fit additional parts to the bike they add limitations within the ECU which is much cheaper & simpler to do, when activated they reduce engine performance to minimise the chance of damage. While this works as a fix it doesn't do anything for performance & can actually reduce power by up to 30%.

What an intercooler does is reduce the intake charge temperature to a level below the where the ECU limitations are active so the engine power it kept at the maximum at all times. This is especially important when increasing boost *adding supercharger gears* because the charge temperature increases even more when the boost pressure increases.

Adding supercharger gears without adding an intercooler is counter productive & can actually make the bike run worse because with more boost you will get a higher charge temperature & the engine protection will become active sooner due to higher temperature.

ABOUT THE KIT

We have developed this kit in conjunction with multiple Land speed record holder Greg Watters from Black Art Racing. Greg came to us with the requirement to lower the intake charge temperature on his LSR Kawasaki H2 project. During testing Greg has seen an impressive decrease of intake charge temp of 35-50 degreesC (95-120 degF) depending on ambient temperature & riding conditions.

Since it's release our intercooler kit has featured on many high horsepower & competition winning Ninja H2's & H2R's around the world.

Among these is the current Australian land speed record holder Andy Freeeman in the MPS-BG1000 class with a speed of 212.867mph set on Lake Gairdner salt flats in March 2018.

Damon Emillien's CMP built & prepared Ninja H2 set a world record speed of 230.8mph at the texas mile event in October 2017

our H2O intercooler kit also features on the worlds first & most powerful turbo converted Ninja H2 built by Cengiz Mize Performance in Turkey with more than 500 RWHP.

With proven results backing our claims you can trust that our H2O intecooler kit will deliver the goods & surpass your expectations.

DESIGN

The intercooler system is a water/air type that uses the largest intercooler core we could fit within the confines of the H2 architecture, housed inside a completely in-house CAD designed & CNC machined billet aluminium two piece plenum. Cooling water is circulated via hoses from our one piece pump / reservoir / fill point through a front heat exchanger / radiator, then to the intercooler core where the charge heat is transferred from the intake charge air to the cooling water. The now heated water then starts its cycle again, completing the full cycle every 6-10 seconds. This is a stand-alone system independent from the motorcycle's cooling system. The motorcycle's overflow / header tank is shared, although the intercooler system will very rarely use this feature.

NEW DEVELOPMENTS

*2021* After more extensive CFD analysis & real world testing we have found that up to 10% additional intercooler efficency could be gained by adding an airflow diffuser plate in the plenum before the intercooler core, this plate has specifically sized holes to help disperse the airflow evenly through the intercooler core without any measurable pressure drop.  This diffuser is now standard on all kits.  We have also redesigned the intergrated intake trumpet (velocity stacks) profile for better high RPM performance as seen in the pictures above.

*2019* In an effort to continually improve our products we have been working with an engineering company that specialises in CFD  (Computational Fluid Dynamics) & have discovered that we are able to gain additional performance from our Ninja H2O intercooler kit by adding some turning vanes to ports 2 & 3, these are especially effective when using upgraded supercharger gears & or increasing the engine rev limit, the benefit is mainly seen in the higher RPM range (above 12000 rpm).

Vanes are now included in all kits.

FITTING

All parts required to fit the system are included in the kit, although you will require some basic hand tools to install the system plus a good understanding of your motorcycle & mechanical knowledge.

TUNING
ECU Re tuning is also recommended to take advantage of the cooler charge temperature & the different internal plenum dynamics. This can also be combined with increased boost pressure for additional horsepower gains.

NOTE: Tuning changes may affect compliance with EPA regulations, please check with your local authorities before performing any tuning modifications.

 Black ceramic plenum

Coating options

Some customers may wish to have a more stealth look on their bike or add some extra protection against heat soak, so we are offering some coating options.

  • Anodizing is a hard wearing coating that adds a very cool satin black finish to components.

  • Ceramic coating adds extra protection against heat transfer (soak) from the engine to the plenum, especially when being used in a drag racing situation where the bike will sit still for long periods between runs.

  • High temp coating is used on the front heat exchanger to give a more stealth look without affecting its performance.

Please note: Anodizing & ceramic coating will add approximately 1 week to the production time

 BOV upgrade

Some customers may wish to change the BOV return system to a vent to atmosphere type.

We've had this Turbosmart Kompact unit custom built to suit the H2, not only is it

much higher quality & more compact it looks a lot better than the OEM unit also, oh & the sound.

Note: The return hose for the OEM BOV is not included when selecting this option

H2 water/air intercooler kit
The quality, fit, finish are second to none, 30  years of building bikes and cars, I have never been happier with a product purchase!

Intercooler Kit Ninja H2
The quality of the product is fantastic and well made. Fitting the intercooler wasn't difficult at all and pretty straight forward, instruction are pretty clear in how it should be fitted, most difficult part was fitting the hoses between the frames but once that part was done it was simple the rest of the way. I do recommend anyone who buys this kit to get block off Smog plates. The bike runs much cooler when riding, big drop in boosting temperatures
